An Accessible Community Playground Is In The Works!

Essex Elementary School needs a new playground and we need your support. The current equipment does not meet today's safety codes and is near the end of its useful life. The vision for new equipment is to create a universal design that can be used by 5-12 year old children of all abilities and disabilities. Installation is currently planned for Spring 2008 with the design criteria set as follows:

  • Two playscapes to accommodate up to 200 children at one time
  • Wheelchair accessible with ramping systems and transfer stations
  • Use of recycled or recyclable materials that are low maintenance and high durability.
  • A balance between physical activity and imaginative play
  • Climbing, balancing, traversing, sliding, swinging and jumping activities
  • Sound play, interactive play panels, roofs to create sense of enclosure, benches
  • Rubberized surfacing to minimize fall impact and for easier mobility
  • A design that reflects Essex community spirit of conservation, heritage and good citizenship.
The fundraising goal is set at $200,000. Please consider supporting this community project with a monetary donation. All donations of $50 or more will be recognized on a donor board at the playground site according to the following categories:

$50-$149
$150-$499
$500-$999
$1,000-$4,999
$5000-$9,999
